Bogus officials steal from couple

A couple in their 80s had £600 stolen from their bedroom by two men who said they were from the local water board.

Sussex Police said they were targeted on Monday afternoon at their home in Lavender Street, Brighton.

The 83-year-old woman was told by a man who she allowed into her kitchen to check her water and sink that he was fixing a leak coming from her property.

She and her husband then saw a second man in the hallway who gave a "thumbs up" sign, and both men left together.

Round face

The first man was described as white, aged about 25 to 30 years old, 5ft 11in (1.7m) tall, and was wearing a long-sleeved blue or grey jumper which had a small logo on the left hand side of the chest.

He was also wearing dark coloured trousers or jeans, and had short, dark brown, thick hair and was of slim build.

He was clean shaven, had a round youngish looking face, and local accent.

The second man was described as white, aged about 35 to 40 years old, 6ft (1.8m) tall, with very short hair.

The couple told police he was of a thick build and had a pale roundish face.
