More bones found in skull search

Scene where bones were found
The remains were found in woodland near a road in Queensway

About 90% of a young woman's skeleton has now been uncovered in woodland in East Sussex, police have said.

Children found the woman's skull while playing near a road in the Queensway area of Hastings on Monday.

Sussex Police said the bones had degraded, but a number of forensic specialists are helping with the post mortem examination on the remains.

A fingertip search of the woodland, between Wishing Tree Reservoir and Crowhurst Road, is being carried out.

Police previously said the body had been at the site for less than 18 months and appeared not to have been buried.

Surgical pins

The bones are believed to be those of a woman, in her mid-teens to early-20s.

Detectives are investigating whether surgical pins inserted into a broken upper left leg might lead to the woman's identity.

Det Ch Insp Adam Hibbert, from Sussex Police, said: "This is, by necessity, a thorough and painstaking investigation and I do not anticipate early answers.

"Missing person databases have so far not given us any clues to this young woman's identity, but someone, somewhere, must have known her and I would appeal to anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it might seem to them, to contact us."
