Two men have been charged with violent offences after an incident in Hastings which led to the death of 16-year-old foreign student Mohammed Al-Majed.

Sussex Police said Paul Rockett, 20, of Burwash, had been accused of committing a racially aggravated common assault.

Alexander Quinn, 18, of Hastings, was also charged with wounding with intent to cause GBH.

Police said Mr Quinn's charge related to an attack on a foreign national and a friend of Mr Al-Majed.

Serious head injury

Mr Al-Majed suffered a serious head injury outside the USA Fried Chicken and Kebab House on 22 August in what police have described as a "public disorder incident".

The teenager died in Kings College Hospital, London, two days later.

He had spent five weeks in the town and was due to return to Qatar the following week.

Mr Rockett, of Ham Lane, was given conditional bail and is due to appear before Hastings magistrates on 15 October.

Mr Quinn, of Mountbatten Close, appeared before Eastbourne magistrates on Monday and was given conditional bail to attend Lewes Crown Court on 23 January.

The charges do not specifically relate to the death of the teenager but to a series of events which took place leading up to him becoming injured, police said.
