Jaw broken in homophobic attack

Two men were violently robbed, leaving one with a broken jaw, during a homophobic attack in East Sussex.

The pair were walking on Upper James Street, Brighton, in the early hours when two men asked them for a lighter, before making homophobic comments.

After they walked away, they were followed and punched to the ground between St James Road and Abbey Road in the Kemp Town area.

The two attackers then took bank cards from both of the men.

The first suspect is described as a 6ft (1.8m) tall black man, while the second was a taller white man with distinctive blue or green eyes.

A police spokeswoman said: "This really was an abhorrent attack leaving one of the men with serious injuries and both distressed."

She asked for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw either of the suspects to contact them.
