Murder suspect's bail stood down

A 43-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murdering a missing mother has been stood down from bail, Sussex Police have said.

The man was arrested in April over the disappearance of Elaine Taggart.

Police have said that the search for Mrs Taggart, a catering manager at Brighton College, will continue.

She was last seen on 3 January when she gave a colleague a lift. Her car was found near Goring railway station - a short drive from her home in Ferring.

Since Mrs Taggart went missing, both Mother's Day and her son Daniel's 14th birthday have passed with no contact from her, which police say is highly uncharacteristic.

Garden searched

Both her husband and her elderly father, Chelsea Pensioner Douglas Hassell, have made appeals to the woman to return home.

Detectives have searched for the 48-year-old woman in fields, a building site, and in Mrs Taggart's own garden.

In March, officers searched countryside around Ferring and Goring, using specially-trained dogs.

A month later, the hunt was extended to a building site close to her home - officers spent two days searching the site in Ferringham Lane, using a digger to move earth.

Last month, officers searched her garden using specialist equipment from the fire service, but had no "significant finds".

Officers made fresh appeals on Wednesday for information that could help with their search.

A statement said: "The search for Mrs Taggart continues. If anyone has information regarding her disappearance, then Sussex Police would urge them to come forward."

Mrs Taggart is described as white, 5ft 6in (1.6m) tall, with medium build and dark brown hair.
