Airshow takes off in seaside town

Red Arrows
The Red Arrows will fly over Eastbourne for three days of the show

A four-day airshow is taking off in East Sussex with three displays from the Red Arrows among the events.

This year, the annual Eastbourne International Airshow, Airbourne, is celebrating 90 years of the RAF.

An entrance fee has been brought in this year for the first time in the event's 16-year history.

Eastbourne Borough Council said charges were brought in to avoid residents facing a council tax rise of 5.8% instead of the actual 3.8% increase.

Councillor Steve Wallis said last year's deficit of £72,000 was footed by the borough's council tax payers.

And he added that the entrance fee meant there would be no costs imposed on residents and spectators would be given the choice to pay for the "best views" of the events.

Displays from the Red Arrows will be taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, he said.
