Police have named the man who died after being rescued from the sea next to the Palace Pier in Brighton on Saturday night.

Ruairi Kelly, 28, from the Dublin area, was pronounced dead in hospital.

Lifeguards on the beach attempted to save him along with another member of the 14-strong stag group, but were unable to reach him in the rough seas.

He was eventually recovered by Brighton's RNLI lifeboat. A post-mortem examination is due to take place later.
