A man from Sussex has been swimming across the English Channel with his family to raise money for charity.

Lee FitzHenry, from Crawley Down, began the relay swim at 0400 BST in Dover with his two brothers, his father, and two uncles.

The group want to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, children's charity Rays of Sunshine, and the Exeter Leukaemia Fund.

A spokesman said they were on schedule to reach Calais by about 1800 BST.

"We all face challenges in our lives but these pale into insignificance when compared to those faced by sufferers of Motor Neurone Disease, Leukaemia or terminally ill children and their parents," a statement on their website, Swim Like A Fitz, said.

"We are united in saying that everything we face during the swim is worth it if we can raise many thousands of pounds for our charities," it continued.

Lee FitzHenry is joined by brothers Daniel and Craig, his father Paul, who is the oldest member of the group, and his uncles Neal and David.
