Man charged in wife's hit-and-run

A man has been charged with attempting to murder his wife in a hit-and-run crash between her bicycle and a van.

Anne Hewlett, 36, was critically injured in the collision in Worthing, West Sussex on 29 February.

Mrs Hewlett's husband, Martin Hewlett, 44, of Guildford Road, Worthing, was charged with her attempted murder by detectives from Sussex Police.

He will appear at Worthing Magistrates' Court on Thursday morning, a police spokesman said.

Mrs Hewlett was admitted to intensive care with life-threatening injured to her legs, liver and head following the late-night collision on Canterbury Road.

Police later found a white Ford Transit van abandoned about a mile away from the crash scene and conducted forensic examinations on it.
