Star Trek actress Marina Sirtis is among TV stars from both sides of the Atlantic filming a new movie in and around Horsham in West Sussex.

Fact Not Fiction Films, based in Southwater, began shooting on Monday for 31 North 62 East, an SAS thriller.

Sirtis, who played Deanna Troi in The Next Generation, will star with Heather Peace, from ITV's Ultimate Force.

"It is very exciting - we have got a great crew and a great cast," said production manager Susan Michaelis.

The fictional film is about an SAS regiment whose position in Afghanistan is revealed by the government as part of an $80bn arms deal.

Peace, who is from Brighton, and also appeared in London's Burning, plays the lead role of the SAS captain who survives to investigate the scandal.

Ms Michaelis said many business in West Sussex had provided hair and make-up, wardrobe, catering, vehicles and hotels for the project.

"It shows that we can make films in West Sussex - we don't have to be in London or some other part of the country," she said.

"We have what we believe to be the best team in the country, and we are going to make the best independent film of the year."
