Support for £10m schools overhaul

A £10m overhaul of schools in a West Sussex town has had "a high level of support", the county council has said.

Further consultation on the future of the six primary schools in Littlehampton is now set to take place in September.

Councillor Pat Arculus said the "vast majority" of people backed the plans.

She said: "I am confident we are moving in the right direction and that these changes will be a huge boost." A final decision is expected in November.

The plans would see a merger between Arun Vale Infant School, Elm Grove Infant School and Connaught Junior School to form a new primary school with nursery provision.

Wickbourne Infant School and Flora McDonald Junior School would amalgamate to form a new school.

Lyminster Infant School, which currently caters for children aged four to seven, would expand, taking children aged up to 11.

The overhaul would come into effect in September 2011.
