Ten bailed after weapons protest

Ten people arrested at a demonstration at a weapons factory in Brighton have been bailed pending further inquiries.

The arrests were made on Wednesday after activists forced their way into the grounds of EDO MBM Technology and caused damage to cars and windows.

Protesters had earlier gathered with dancers and samba bands at The Level to mark four years of campaigning by the Brighton-based group Smash EDO.

The 10 people have been released on bail without charge until 7 August.

Sussex Police said there were 350 protesters at the demonstration, but Smash EDO claimed the real number was nearer 600.

EDO designs, develops and manufactures weapon carriage and release systems and is an approved supplier to the Ministry of Defence and governments worldwide.
