A man who was arrested on suspicion of murdering a missing mother has been released on police bail.

Officers were given a 12-hour extension on Thursday morning to question the 43-year-old man in connection with the disappearance of Elaine Taggart.

Mrs Taggart, 48, from Ferring, near Worthing, West Sussex, was last seen on 3 January when she gave a colleague a lift home from work.

Sussex police said the man had been bailed until 27 May.

Her car was found a day later a short distance from Goring railway station and a five-minute drive away from her home in Ferring village.

Officers and volunteers have searched fields near the catering manager's home and her father, 90-year-old Chelsea Pensioner Douglas Hassall, made a public appeal for information.

Mrs Taggart's 11-year-old daughter, Sophie, also urged her to get in touch in a letter released by police.
