Detectives are investigating an arson attack at a derelict social club in the grounds of a Sussex hospital.

More than 40 firefighters spent 12 hours tackling the blaze at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath at about 1830 GMT on Sunday.

Eight fire crews used hose reels and special appliances to douse the blaze, and were still at the scene on Monday.

There was no disruption to services at the hospital, but road closures were in place for several hours.

Sussex Police said the fire at the former Norman Hay Hall was being treated as arson.

They appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact officers.
