Man scoops £427,000 with £2 bet
Horse racing (generic)
Adam Phillips is hoping to repeat his win this Saturday
A canteen worker from West Sussex has scooped £427,434 after staking just £2 on a series of horse racing bets during a shopping trip with his wife.

Adam Phillips, 40, won after he picked out six winners at York, Chester and Ascot races in his home town of Littlehampton last Saturday.

The father-of-one placed the Scoop 6 bet with William Hill.

He is now hoping to win a further £183,186 with a bonus bet at Newbury races this coming Saturday.

Mr Phillips said his win had left him "over the moon" and he was still trying to take it all in.

'Icing on cake'

He is hoping to use the winnings to start up a new life in Spain with his wife and two-year-old son.

The family moved there last year, but had to return to the UK after a few months when they ran out of money.

Speaking ahead of this Saturday's bonus race, Mr Phillips said it would be the "icing on the cake" if he won.

The Scoop 6 bet costs £2 per entry and involves making a selection in each of that day's chosen races shown on television.

All winners then get the opportunity to increase their jackpot by selecting the winning horse of the following week's Scoop 6 bonus race.
