Surrey Police tackle car number plate theft

Free anti-theft screws are being offered to motorists to stop thieves stealing car number plates.

Pc Tracy Spencer said car owners can collect a special screw from Woking police station.

She said: "These simple anti-theft devices can be easily fitted with a screwdriver but cannot be removed using standard tools."

Surrey Police said seven number plates have been removed from cars in seven days.

Officers said the stolen plates were being used by criminals who do not want their vehicles to be traced.
