Anti-social drivers are stopped

Nearly 90 motorists were stopped during a day of action to target anti-social driving in a Surrey town.

Thursday's campaign in Ashford led to 87 drivers being stopped for offences including speeding, using a mobile phone and failing to wear a seat belt.

The operation was carried out by Surrey Police, working with county council officers and other agencies.

South East Coast Ambulance Service checked the blood pressure of several drivers and referred one to a doctor.

"Anti-social driving is the most common issue raised at neighbourhood panel meetings," said Insp Rebecca Kempster.

"The recent activity was designed to target the issues which have been highlighted by Ashford residents."
