Police foil digger theft attempt

Police have foiled an attempt by thieves to steal equipment from a building site.

Surrey Police said a member of the public reported seeing three men in a lorry behaving suspiciously at the site in Reigate Hill, Surrey on Wednesday.

When officers arrived they found men loading a digger into the lorry that was believed to have been stolen.

Police said the men fled the scene and despite a search involving dogs and a helicopter they could not find them.

The force has appealed for anyone with information about the incident which happened at around 1845 GMT to get in touch.
