Dog walkers are being asked to join an anti-crime scheme
Dog owners in an area of Surrey are being asked to look out for suspicious activity while they are walking their pets and report it.
The Tandridge Dog Walker Watch, which is backed by the community safety partnership, is being launched on Sunday at the RSPCA in South Godstone.
Tandridge council said the aim was to create a partnership between police, the community and the local authority.
Insp Elaine Burtenshaw said walkers were not to endanger themselves.
She said: "We are not asking people to put themselves at risk, we are asking them to report any suspicious or anti-social behaviour to reduce crime in the district."
Interested residents have to complete an application form to join the scheme.
Hilary New, Tandridge council's community safety manager, said such watch schemes helped to develop a sense of community.
She said: "We hope as many dog owners as possible will join and work with us."
