The planned 6m building will have a digital media centre and an auditorium

A £6m upgrade has been planned for a university campus in Surrey with the creation of a digital media centre.

The University for the Creative Arts said the building in Epsom would also have a new learning and resource centre and auditorium.

Pro Vice-chancellor Alan Cooke said two-thirds of the funding had already been granted by the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

Plans are due to be considered by Epsom council this autumn.

If the proposals are approved, the new building will be ready for use in 2011.

Mr Cooke said it would enhance the university and help staff provide excellence in the educational experience offered to students.
