Eighteen limousines were stopped in the crackdown around Frimley Green

Two limousines have been taken off the road during a crackdown on vehicle safety in part of Surrey.

Checks by licensing enforcement officers and police took place in the Frimley Green area of Surrey Heath during the school prom season.

Out of 18 vehicles stopped, three had mechanical faults and the drivers were ordered to carry out necessary repairs.

One un-roadworthy limo had its licence suspended. Another, which was unlicensed, was seized by police.

Surrey Heath licensing officer Jessica Harris said unscrupulous operators had two choices - either to comply with the law or find another occupation.

Licensing committee chairman, councillor David Hamilton, said the majority of taxi and limousine firms did a great job and provided excellent services, but the council would continue with such checks in the future to help ensure safety.
