Elderly pedestrian struck by car

An elderly pedestrian, believed to be in his 80s, is in hospital in a critical condition after being hit by a car in Surrey.

Emergency teams were called to the scene in Dorking High Street on Saturday morning.

The man had multiple injuries including a serious head injury after being hit by a Ford Escort car at about 1030 BST. He was airlifted to a London hospital.

Police said the road was busy with shoppers and appealed for witnesses.

Road closures were put in place for about three hours while an investigation was carried out.
