Two Kent police officers who overpowered a man who charged at them with a carving knife are to receive bravery awards later. Constables Ben Farquett and Gareth Williams had just started the night shift when they were called to a property in Tonbridge. They were confronted with a man wielding a nine-inch knife. Unable to use their batons because of the confined space, they had to fight to force the man to drop his weapon. Chairman of Kent Police Federation Ian Pointon said: "This is a stark reminder of the dangers that officers face on a daily basis whilst policing Kent. "Both officers acted decisively and without a thought for their own safety." The event will be held at the Dorchester in London on Thursday evening, followed by a reception at 10 Downing Street with the prime minister.
