A charity founded by a cancer patient from Surrey is still inspiring others to continue fund-raising in her name three years after her death.

The KatCanDo campaign was set up by Kate Coles, who used to work at Frimley Park Hospital and died in March 2006.

It has now donated £10,000 to the breast care cancer team at Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The money, from fund-raising events and supporters, will be used to buy equipment to benefit cancer patients.

'Great inspiration'

The charity raises money for items and services that the NHS would not normally be able to provide.

In August 2005 it funded a detection probe to perform biopsies on breast cancer patients and a year later paid for rapid blood testing equipment for patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Ms Coles died at the age of 51.

Charity chairman Christine Francis said: "Kate never once felt sorry for herself. When she was told she had cancer she turned it right round into a positive by doing something to improve things for other cancer patients.

"We all really miss her but she remains a great inspiration to us all to keep fundraising in her name."
