A secondary school in Surrey that closed following an outbreak of swine flu has reopened.

All Hallows Catholic School in Farnham closed after a group of students returned from a visit to Germany with the bug, but opened again on Monday.

Any children who who are suffering from flu-like symptoms have been asked to remain at home.

The outbreak began with a single swine flu case in Year 8 but went on to affect a high proportion of pupils.

Events cancelled

A statement on the school's website said the school in Weybourne Road reopened to all year groups.

It added: "To reduce the risk of further cases of swine flu, parents please do not send your child to school if they are displaying any symptoms."

It also urged students to take care over personal hygiene to minimise the spread of infection.

The school cancelled several events including a music trip to Italy, a design and technology exhibition and a Duke of Edinburgh expedition.

Other Surrey schools have been affected by single cases of swine flu but remained open, following advice from the Health Protection Agency.
