Free town centre parking returns

Guildford High Street
Pay-and-display car parks in the town centre will be free for three hours

A Surrey town centre is offering another day of free parking after the success of two others this year.

Guildford Borough Council said its town centre pay-and-display car parks would be free for three hours on 4 July.

The offer coincides with events and entertainment as part of the Guildford Summer Festival.

It has been organised to help pass back to the public the VAT from its metered car parking charges, and has also been designed to help boost trade.

Councillor Jenny Wicks said: "We want to encourage people to visit Guildford to enjoy all it has to offer."

Free park-and-ride

The parking promotion includes a free, three-hour parking voucher for council pay-and-display car parks in the town centre.

The voucher is valid from 0930 BST and is available from the council's Tourist Information Centre or online, but it excludes the Castle and Tunsgate car parks.

All street parking restrictions apply as usual, including payment for parking in on-street pay-and-display places.

However there will be free parking all day at the long-stay car parks in York Road, Farnham Road and Guildford Park, as well as free park-and-ride all day from Ladymead, Artington and Merrow.
