Nine arrests at Derby race event

Epsom Downs
Surrey Police said the number of arrests was 'very small'

Nine people were arrested at the Epsom Downs Racecourse on Derby Day, Surrey Police have said.

The horse racing event is the largest gathering of people in the county each year and was attended by 100,000 people including the Queen.

The arrests on Saturday included a man suspected of outraging public decency, a woman suspected of assault and a man suspected of theft.

Police said it was "a very small number given the large crowd in attendance".

Other arrests were for suspected offences including obstructing police, possession of Class A drugs and a public order offence.

Three men were arrested for being drunk and disorderly.
