'Gardener' steals holiday fund

A thief posing as a gardener stole over £1,000 from a disabled woman in Surrey.

A man called at the house in Farncombe at around 1330 BST on Saturday offering to do some gardening. The woman agreed to pay £60 and £10 for another odd job.

The man re-entered the house saying he was going to get some tools but never returned. The woman then found the cash had been stolen from her living room.

The victim, who has a terminally ill husband and a disabled son, was saving the money for a holiday at Butlins.

Pc Jim Lavery said: "To commit crime against vulnerable members of our community is just about the lowest of the low."

The man was described as white, approximately 5ft 7ins (1.7m) tall, of medium build with black hair and a tanned complexion.

He was said to be wearing a light coloured shirt and dark blue jeans, and driving a white transit van.
