Olympic silver medallist Roger Black has unveiled Surrey's logo for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The logo, which will feature on flags and other materials for the programme, was designed by 22-year-old Rachel Cresswell, from Hastings, East Sussex.

Ms Cresswell is a student at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in Epsom, where the unveiling took place on Monday.

UCA is also to co-ordinate a Cultural Olympiad for Surrey in 2012.

Surrey's 2012 co-ordinator Elizabeth Molineux said: "Roger is a great ambassador for sports in Surrey and we are delighted that he was able to unveil this logo today."

'Celebratory design'

The judges were delighted with the winning design, she said.

She added: "Rachel Cresswell met the tough brief with a unique and celebratory design that will have broad appeal."

The seven design students selected to take part in the competition were from India, Germany, the Czech Republic, Iran, Taiwan and the UK.

They were all students on the MA Graphic Design course at Epsom and had to pitch their designs to a panel of expert judges in an Apprentice-style contest.

UCA Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Seymour Roworth-Stokes said the project had been a "tremendous experience" for their students.
