Hundreds of homes without power

More than 900 homes in two Surrey villages were left without electricity following a technical fault.

Power to properties in the Lingfield and Oxted areas was interrupted at 0430 GMT. EDF Energy said it was returned to all homes in Oxted by 1155 GMT.

All except 13 properties in Lingfield had power restored by 1305 GMT.

A spokesman for the company said the cause of the fault was being investigated and apologised for the inconvenience caused.

"We can fully appreciate how difficult it is being without electricity, particularly in this cold weather," he said.

EDF Energy said it could not confirm whether the problem was linked to a fault on Tuesday which left about 100 homes without power in Limpsfield.
