Children's services move forward

Mobile children's centre
Two buses will act as mobile centres and be in operation from the new year

More children's centres are opening in Surrey to offer advice, information and support to families.

Surrey County Council has completed work on Guildford Grove Centre and acquired two buses which will take services to remote areas of the county.

The authority is aiming to develop 77 centres by April 2010 and now has 51 sites in total.

The mobile centre buses will be in operation from the new year. Routes and timetables are still to be announced.

Councillor Peter Martin said the council was moving closer to its target for children's centres.

He said the latest centre at Guildford Grove would offer a "range of services at one site" and also provide facilities for the whole community.
