Husband charged over murder plot

Sharon Birchwood was found dead at her home

A business consultant from Surrey has been charged with conspiracy to murder his ex-wife.

Sharon Birchwood, 52, was found dead at her home in Harriotts Lane, Ashtead, on 7 December. A post-mortem examination established she died from asphyxia.

Graham George Birchwood, 54, of Banstead, is accused of conspiring to kill her between 14 June 2007 and 5 December 2007.

He was remanded in custody at Guildford Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Mr Birchwood is due to appear at the Old Bailey on 8 January 2009.
