Dog attack injures pet and owner

A dog, its owner and a passer-by have been injured in an attack in Surrey by another dog which police said is believed to be a banned breed.

The tan and white animal got away from its owner on The Green, between Ryde Lands and Long Fields in Cranleigh on Tuesday morning.

The woman and a man who helped separate the animals had wounded hands. The attacked dog needed treatment by a vet.

A 37-year-old man from Cranleigh was arrested and released on police bail.

His dog is being kept in kennels while the investigation continues.

Det Con Jackie Green said there were many people in the area at the time of the incident and police would like to hear from witnesses who had not yet come forward.

"It is a criminal offence to allow a dog to be dangerously out of control and Surrey Police will take action to bring offenders to justice," she said.

The attacked dog, which was being walked on a lead, is making a full recovery.
