Robbers hit flagged-down motorist

A driver who was flagged down by a man on the side of a Surrey road was robbed when he stopped to help.

The 22-year-old was driving from West Byfleet on the B382 Old Woking Road on Thursday evening when he was attacked by two men, Surrey Police said.

The man was chased from his car, a Peugeot 306, and ran to a nearby property to seek help.

The two men then dumped the car nearby and stole a wallet, £600 in cash, a phone and a sat-nav system.

The attack happened after one man leaned through the passenger window to ask for directions.

A second man appeared at the driver's side and began punching the victim in the face while the other man got into the car and demanded the driver's wallet and phone.

'Despicable crime'

A police spokesperson said: "In a bid to escape, the victim clambered over the first suspect and got out of the vehicle, fleeing in the direction of West Byfleet.

"He was chased by the two attackers, who carried on assaulting him."

Both suspects are described as white men, of average build, with short brown hair and aged about 20.

Pc Andrew Kim said: "I would urge anyone who was in the area around the time of the robbery to contact me as soon as possible with any information which could lead officers to finding the perpetrators of this despicable crime."
