Hundreds of people cheered on Territorial Army (TA) troops taking part in a centenary parade in Surrey.

Soldiers based in Redhill and Reigate, many of whom recently returned from Iraq and Afghanistan, marched through Reigate on Saturday.

The mayor of Reigate and Banstead held a reception for the troops at the town hall following the midday parade.

The march is one of a number of events being held in Surrey to mark 100 years of the TA.

People lined Castlefield Road, Church Street, High Street and London Road to watch the troops from 150 Recovery Company Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, based in Redhill, and 2 Field Troop 579 Field Squadron, based in Reigate, as they marched past.

Two soldiers who recently lost their lives were also remembered at the event.

Mayor Dorothy Ross-Tomlin said the parade and reception gave the town a chance to thank the troops for the sacrifices they had made.

Surrey's tribute to the soldiers kicked off in Guildford on 5 April, when more than 200 members of the TA paraded through the town, watched by hundreds of onlookers.

Surrey has five TA units, based in Farnham, Camberley, Redhill, Reigate and Chertsey.
