One dead in three-vehicle crash

A person has died in a crash between a car and two lorries on the A3 near Guildford, Surrey Police have said.

Officers said one lorry involved in the accident on the southbound carriageway was carrying hazardous chemicals.

The crash happened between the Burpham and Stoke slip roads just before 1000 BST, but police said the A3 would remain closed until Tuesday evening.

Drivers were warned of lengthy tailbacks after the southbound A3 and one northbound lane were closed.

Chemical containers

A spokeswoman for Surrey Police said the three vehicles involved were a saloon car, an articulated lorry, and a rigid lorry which was carrying the chemicals.

The containers of chemicals were removed from the crash scene.

Police have not released any further details about the person who died.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area until investigations into the cause of the crash had been completed.
