Man dies after attack in street

Police have started a murder inquiry after a man died following an attack in a street in Surrey.

The man, in his 50s, was attacked in Walton Lane, Walton-on-Thames at about 1500 GMT.

He was taken by air ambulance to St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey. Police said he was pronounced dead at 1730 GMT.

A police dog unit and the Surrey Police helicopter have been searching the cordoned off area. Walton Lane and Walton Bridge have been closed.
