Village gets alcohol control zone
An alcohol control zone to prevent anti-social behaviour in the Epsom and Ewell area of Surrey has been extended.

The Section 13 order now covers Gibraltar Recreation Ground, between Ewell village and West Ewell, and the grounds of Bourne Hall nearby.

The borough council said they had become "trouble spots", with "intoxicated and abusive teenagers" causing problems for local residents.

The original Section 13 order came in around Epsom town centre in June 2006.

It included Rosebery Park, Elizabeth Welchman Gardens and Alexandra Recreation Ground.

The order means police officers can seize alcohol from anyone, minors and adults, if they are behaving in an anti-social manner within a control zone.

Councillor Mike Richardson said: "Everyone has the right to feel safe using our parks and open spaces and we are pleased the Section 13 order extension has come into force so quickly."
