Dux will now undergo further treatment in the United States

Guildford Heat basketball star Brian Dux has been flown back to his home in Buffalo as he continues to recover from a coma caused by a car accident.

Dux, 26, who suffered brain trauma in the crash, was airlifted home in a specially-equipped medical aircraft.

He has had prolonged periods of consciousness in recent days.

"While his being awake is a tremendous development, Brian and his family have an immensely long road in front of them," said Heat coach Paul James.

"These last few days have been a great boost for us all, but people need to realise Brian's health is still very fragile and his recovery is still at the very beginning."

The club have organised a benefit game for Dux at the Spectrum on 28 December, proceeds of which will go towards the cost of the airlift, estimated at £16,000.

Dux suffered "significant brain trauma" in the accident on 10 November and spent almost three weeks in Frimley Park Hospital. It is still unclear whether he will be able to resume his playing career.
