A benefit game is to be held to raise funds for the family of a basketball player seriously hurt in a road crash.

Guildford Heat Basketball Club, in Surrey, said it would be staging the Brian Dux Benefit Game on 28 December.

Mr Dux, 26, has been in a coma at Frimley Park Hospital since crashing his car in Chobham two weeks ago.

Heat vice chairman Andrew Bird said: "We wanted to do something special for Brian, and this gives everyone a chance to get involved wherever they live."

Tickets for the game, which will take place at Guildford Spectrum between Guildford Heat and a specially invited BBL All Stars team, went on sale on Sunday.

Fans and friends of Brian Dux are being urged to buy tickets even if they cannot attend the game.

All ticket sales and merchandising proceeds will be given directly to his family.

Mr Bird added that the club had been "inundated with requests" to help the Dux family from all over the world.

"Everyone who buys a ticket will be helping Brian and his family.

"We do not mind if we sell out the game in a few days and only have half of the crowd present on the day - the key objective here is to raise funds for the Dux family," he said.
