Police have ordered a review into why it took more than two hours to get to the scene of a car crash which left a basketball player seriously injured.

Brian Dux, 26, who plays for Guildford Heat, has been in a coma in Frimley Park Hospital since crashing his car in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The club have been told his injuries may lead to permanent disabilities.

Surrey Police Supt Chris Moon said: "We acknowledge that there was a delay in our response to the incident."

He added: "As a consequence we have initiated our own internal review around our management and deployment of resources.

"When this review is completed and all relevant factors have been considered, the family have our assurance that we will share with them our full and frank findings."

Mr Dux was seriously injured when his Nissan Micra left the road in Chobham in the early hours of Saturday.

His family have flown in from the United States to be with him in hospital.

"His brain has suffered significant trauma," said Guildford Heat coach Paul James.

"Doctors have let us know we must prepare for the worst. Brian is a fighter - he never gives up so we know he is fighting now."

Surrey Police have urged any witnesses to the incident to contact them.
