A charity based in Stanwell has notched up more than £40,000 in donations for one of Surrey's main hospitals.

Save Children In Pain is run by Les and Sandy Street, and raises money for equipment to treat premature babies at St Peter's Hospital, in Chertsey.

Mr Street said £5,000 had been raised for babies with jaundice.

"It's hard work but we're a very local charity - we believe that money raised in the local area should be spent in the local area."

He said the charity had been going for 20 years and was originally borne out of a fundraising scheme set up to help build a new hospital, which fell through.

"We raise money for anybody really, providing that more than one child benefits - lots of children must benefit by it," he said.

The money has been raised through a range of events including jumble sales and craft fairs.
