Cold call control zone introduced

An area of Surrey has been designated as a "no cold calling zone" in a bid to stop doorstep crime.

Signs that warn bogus officials and high pressure salesmen that they are not welcome have been put up around the Maybury estate in Woking.

More than 600 homes fall inside the no cold calling zone.

Surrey Police and Surrey Trading Standards say persistent uninvited callers will be removed and may face possible prosecution.

Supt Chris Moon said: "This scheme is aimed at discouraging any cold caller - from the potential distraction burglar, the nuisance door stepper who intimidates a resident, to the other end of the scale where trick or treaters surprise people."

The pilot scheme is expected to run for at least six months.
