Name ideas sought for arts centre
Guildford Civic (from Guildford Borough Council)
The council wants a modern venue on the Guildford Civic site
Residents of a Surrey town are being asked for new names for the civic centre which is set to undergo a 19.5m rebuild.

The Guildford Civic closed down in January 2004 but planners are now working on new designs.

Architects from Austin-Smith:Lord will present their latest plans on 14 February, ahead of public consultation and a formal planning application.

A 1,000-seater arts and entertainment venue is planned.

It will be built on the same London Road site as the existing Guildford Civic.

Councillor Nigel Manning, from Guildford Borough Council, said: "The replacement will have a positive impact on the town, and will form part of an integrated urban design.

"The chosen name will be a major part of the identity and marketing of the new facility... so it is vital to get it right out at the outset."
