Travellers face snow disruption in Suffolk

Motorists were trapped in their cars overnight as heavy snow caused problems for travellers, commuters and schoolchildren in Suffolk.

The worst affected area has been on the A12 between Copdock near Ipswich and the Essex border.

Gritting lorries faced problems as they tried to clear roads, with one becoming stuck on the approach to the Orwell Bridge on the A14.

Many schools have been closed, giving pupils an early start to the holidays.

Suffolk Police said they had dealt with 230 incidents since Thursday evening.

They said Operation Stack had been put into place.

Officers directed lorries to park up on the old A45 at Levington because Felixstowe Port was closed due to adverse weather conditions.

National Express East Anglia said there was disruption to their services between Suffolk and London, with delays and cancellations due to the weather.
