Councillor pays tribute to Hehir

A civic memorial service will be held later for a chief executive of a council in Suffolk who had held the post for 20 years.

Family and colleagues at Ipswich Borough Council will gather at St Mary-le-Tower church to pay tribute to James Hehir, 61, who died on 10 November.

The service will be broadcast at the Corn Exchange at 1100 GMT.

Mr Hehir was behind the Waterfront regeneration, University Campus Suffolk and the Jerwood DanceHouse.

Books of condolence have been opened at Ipswich Town Hall and at the council's Grafton House offices.

A private funeral for family and close friends will take place at All Saints Church, Holbrook, on Friday.
