Cat tied to washing line put down

The cat Lily may have swallowed part of the washing line cord

A cat which was found hanging on a washing line has had to be put down, animal watchdog the RSPCA has revealed.

Lily, a grey long-haired cat, had been tied to the line by a length of cord which was knotted around her waist in Beccles, Suffolk.

The animal was found on 6 November but, despite treatment for her injuries, the four-year-old cat was put to sleep a few days later, said the RSPCA.

Lily had no use of her back legs, inspectors said.

RSPCA inspector Ben Kirby said she had also swallowed part of the cord "possibly where she had bitten at it in a desperate attempt to free herself".

He added: "This was clearly a despicable thing to do to an animal. Lily had no chance of freeing herself and was effectively just left to die."

The RSPCA appealed for information on the case.

No-one has been arrested at this stage.
