Three rescued from stranded boat

Three people were rescued off the Suffolk coast after high winds forced their boat onto rocks.

The boat, from an offshore oil rig, was on its way to Lowestoft port to collect a water pump for a rig supply ship.

But the 45mph (72 kph) winds pushed it onto the rocks at Ness Point near Lowestoft on Friday night.

Lowestoft lifeboat went out and lifted the three people off the rocks before bringing them to the harbour. They were all said to be safe and well.

A spokesman for Lowestoft lifeboat said the weather conditions were very poor and the water shallow.
