Hundreds compete for store jobs

QD has 25 vacancies at its new store in Lowestoft, Suffolk

A discount chain has been contacted by 1,300 people interested in applying for the 25 jobs that will be created at its new store in Suffolk.

QD is opening its second store in Lowestoft at the former Woolworths premises in London Road North.

The company has 34 shops in England - employing more than 800 people.

The company, which has opened seven new shops this year, said with a week to go before the closing deadline it had sent out 1,300 job application forms.

Human resources manager Louise Drake said: "We have our core customers and when a recession hits we draw in those customers that may not choose to shop with us when the pennies are in their pocket, free to be spent."

The new store is due to open in November.
