Killer Wright girlfriend appeal

A former girlfriend of 51-year-old killer Steve Wright is being urged to contact Suffolk police.

Detectives want to establish the whereabouts of Wright before 2006, when he murdered five women in Ipswich, as a "part of routine inquiries".

They want to talk to the girlfriend he worked with at the Brudenell Hotel in Aldeburgh in about 1975.

A spokeswoman stressed officers just wanted to talk to the woman, and did not believe she had come to any harm.

Life sentence

She said: "Suffolk police can confirm that a small team of officers are conducting enquiries to establish the whereabouts of Wright prior to 2006.

"There is no evidence to link Wright to any other offences at this time."

The bodies of Gemma Adams, Tania Nicol, Anneli Alderton, Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls were found over a 10-day period near Ipswich in 2006.

Steve Wright was sentenced after a six-week trial where jurors unanimously found him guilty of all five murders.

He was given a whole life sentence and told he would spend the rest of his life in prison.
